European Visit

Monday, May 10th, 2010

As you probably know I was recently in Europe. I attended the 2010 Prowein and I also spent some time visiting key distributors and stockist of our wines and cap classiques.

It was an incredible trip for two reasons:

  1. The demand for our wine internationally is growing steadily. We produce some unique and delicious wines (specifically our Haute Cabriere Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend and Pierre Jourdan Tranquille) and the market likes unique and delicious. What was really great was experiencing first-hand the increased interest in and demand for the Pierre Jourdan Tranquille.
  2. I had the opportunity, on this trip, to connect with the people who are stocking and selling Haute Cabriere throughout Europe.  I’ve discovered that this connection is important because it personalises the brand. This is a vital component of success - people must be able to put a name and face to a specific wine otherwise you’ll disappear into the new world wine sea.

So what this all means is that I will be back in Europe again next year. If I didn’t see you on this trip look me up on my next one!

2010 Haute Cabirere Pinot Noir Grape Quality is Excellent

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Just a brief note, because I’m still traveling, to let you all know that the quality of our 2010 Pinot Noir grapes was excellent. So good, in fact, that I can’t get them out of my mind.

You know you’re obsessed when you dream about the grapes you harvested over a month ago.

Post Franschhoek Fire Pictures

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I don’t think most people realise just how close the last Franschhoek fire came to Haute Cabrière. Below are some post Franschhoek Fire images.

The fire moved from this part of the Franschhoek Valley to the Cabriere section - thats a long way to travel.

The upper Cabriere vines and the blackened Franschhoek Mountain. The brown pieces, dotted through the vineyard, are because the fire jumped with the wind. We were incredibly lucky not to lose the whole block.

Working with Family

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The thing to remember, about Haute Cabriere, is that we are a family business. When you drink our wine or our Pierre Jourdan Cap Classique you are drinking something we - the von Arnim family - have produced. Haute Cabriere is a very personal experience.

If you have been to one of our Saturday Wine Tastings you’ll know that Cabriere is more than just the commercial; we, as a family, are involved in every aspect.

So that means that we live, work and - very often - play together. Which in turn means that we never really stop working on or thinking about our Haute Cabriere Wines and our Cap Classique. That’s probably why they’re both so fantastic. You can imagine though that sometimes (only very occasionally) it can all get a bit much!
